Marble bust - Lot 17
Marble bust Presumed portrait of Jerome Savonarola 16th-century Italian school H. 23 cm - L. 19 cm This small marble bust shows a monk in bust form, wearing a capuce covering his shoulders and framing a broad face with a busted nose, high cheekbones, cheeks marked by a double nasolabial fold and the base of the nose marked by a double wrinkle. These features are reminiscent of well-known portraits of Jerome Savonarola, the Dominican friar who led a theocratic government in Florence from 1494 to 1498.
