Profile of a young man
Marble bas-relief
H. 40 cm - L. 36 cm
This bas-relief, carved in white marble with fine gray veins, features a half-bust with the head turned on its right profile of a young man with no iconographic attributes; it could represent a young, beardless saint, perhaps St. John the Evangelist.
Its quality of execution and stylistic characteristics led Prof. Sandro BELLESI, an acknowledged specialist in Florentine sculpture of the 17th and 18th centuries, to include it in the corpus of autograph works by Giovacchino FORTINI, one of the most original of the sculptors active in Florence at the time of the last Medici.
