Lucien LEVY-DHURMER (1865-1953) - Lot 27

Lucien LEVY-DHURMER (1865-1953) Marine Oil on canvas 65 x 50 cm These two oil paintings illustrate the fascinating transition of Lucien Lévy-Dhurmer, a major figure of French Symbolism, towards a quasi-abstract modernity. Known for his vaporous portraits and atmospheric landscapes, here the artist delivers a masterful, raw interpretation of the marine elements. Far from descriptive realism, Lévy-Dhurmer concentrates on the vibration of light and the monumentality of forms. Rocky structures dissolve into a play of textures and colored planes, while water and sky merge into a single, fluid dynamic. Bordering on abstraction, these works testify to a rare technical freedom, where knife and brush convey pure emotion in the face of wild nature.
