GRACQ, Julien. *Le roi pêcheur*. Paris: José Corti, 1948. In - Lot 53
GRACQ, Julien. *Le roi pêcheur*. Paris: José Corti, 1948. In-8, paperback (stained and faded cover).
The only play written by Julien Gracq in 1948 and performed at the Théâtre Montparnasse in 1949, starring Maria Casarès and Jean-Pierre Mocky.
This copy contains pencil corrections and an autographed note by Julien Gracq on page 42 with alternate lines for the characters Kaylet and Amfortas.
Also included is an autographed card from Julien Gracq addressed to Philippe Leconte, an admirer of his work: “I remember well your Franco-German projects for *The Fisher King*, which could not come to fruition. The play was in fact restaged at the Théâtre des Célestins in Lyon in 1991, and to my surprise, it was much better received than at the time of its premiere in 1949. That pleased me, but I think I’ll leave it at that with the theater, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, part ways with it on this positive note...”
The two endpapers are covered with a handwritten text in ink by another hand, an excerpt from the play.
Enclosed:
GRACQ, Julien. *André Breton*. Paris: José Corti, 1948. In-8, paperback. With a portrait of Breton by Bellmer as the frontispiece.
GRACQ, Julien. *La Littérature à l'estomac*. Paris, José Corti, 1950. In-12, paperback.
