PRINTED IN YVERDON. — Historiae romanae scriptores latini ve - Lot 144
PRINTED IN YVERDON. — Historiae romanae scriptores latini veteres. Ebroduni [Yverdon], Printed and published by the Societatis Helv. Caldorianae, 1621. 2 volumes in a sturdy folio volume, half-marbled calf with small vellum corners, decorated spine, red title label, red edges (modern binding in the 18th-century style). One of the earliest prints from Yverdon, Switzerland. A two-column edition spanning over 1,500 pages, published by the Helvetic Caldoresque Society founded by Pyrame de Candolle (1566–1626). A distinguished printer and humanist, Candolle appears to have introduced the art of printing to the town of Yverdon around 1616 or 1617. (Deschamps, col. 442–443; Perret, *Imprimeries d’Yverdon*, p. 378.) Title pages adorned with the large typographic mark depicting Fame blowing her trumpet, perched on a globe surrounded by two serpents. Double title page. Foxing spots; some marginal water stains.
